Dave Shapiro will be teaching a ten week course starting the 21st called
"The Art of the Jazz Soloist" that will be offered on Tuesdays from 6:30
to 8:00 PM. He will focus on great innovators in jazz such as Louis
Armstrong, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and will trace the
development of the jazz language through their work. Recordings and videos
of these great soloists will be listened to, viewed and discussed to see
how contemporary jazz concepts of soloing and ensemble playing evolved
from earlier styles. Dave Shapiro is a seasoned jazz bassist who has
experienced jazz on the road first-hand, having performed with legends

WINTER/SPRING JAZZ ENSEMBLE OPENINGS

ensembles are made up of four to seven musicians, matched for ability
(multigenerational groups are welcomed) who will meet for 1-1/2 hours each

4:00-5:45 or Saturday from 11:00-12:45. After 10 weeks, a final concert
performance showcase will be held for friends, family, and supportive
public. Selections will include swing, funk, bebop and latin styles from a
