Attention students and families: Are you interested in student-centered, democratic education? Looking for a learning environment that emphasizes nature, the arts, and global citizenship? The Journey School’s Elementary and Teen Odyssey programs, currently based in Chester, VT, are considering a move to Putney for the 2011-2012 school year. We offer an alternative to public and traditional private schools by providing a supportive and creative learning environment for students age 7 to 16 who are ready for an education that is self-directed and emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning. By moving nearer to the Brattleboro area, we hope to expand both our student base and our course offerings. We look forward to being an active part of this vibrant community. Before we can make a final decision, we need to gather feedback from students and parents in Putney and the surrounding area; this transition can take place only if local families feel a need for the Journey School’s offerings. Interested students and their parents are strongly encouraged to complete a brief online survey, accessible via our website. This survey will determine whether a move to Putney is feasible this year, and help us craft a program that meets the community’s needs.
