Free film screening of Miss Representation on Monday, June 4, 6PM - 8PM

Putney area parents, teachers, and community members are invited to a free film screening of Miss Representation on Monday, June 4, 6PM - 8PM at The Grammar School auditorium. This powerful documentary explores how the media's misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence, and are significant factors in troubling cultural trends. The film features stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, including Condoleeza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem.

The film, by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and aired on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network. It was featured in Brattleboro during the Women's Film Festival in March 2012. There is sensitive material in the film; it is not recommended for people under the age of 14. The film received a rating of TV-14 DL.

The film will be followed by a facilitated discussion. Limited childcare will be available and needs to be arranged in advance. For more information, contact Meghan Houlihan at meghanbh@gmail.com or 387-5706.
