Fossils drop two CRVBL games last week
Chester 7, Putney 4 WALPOLE - Jamie Spence's first inning 3-run homer proved to be the difference in the Chester CRUSH's 7-4 victory over the Putney Fossils on Thursday, June 21. Spence went 3-for-3 with a run and 4 RBIs.
Scott Renfro went the distance on the mound for the win, and Chuck Harriman added a single and an RBI double for the victors. Steve "Stanley Steamer" Stanley and Travis "Magic" Watson had two hits each for Putney. Quinton Carr drove in two runs.
Walpole 16, Putney 9 DUMMERSTON - The Wild Blue improved to 5-4 on the season with a 16-9 win against the Putney Fossils in Dummerston Sunday. Chris Ballou went the distance on the mound, giving up four earned runs, 10 hits and striking out nine.
Stand-outs at the plate for Walpole on Sunday included left-fielder Drew Davis who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, first baseman Matt Beam (3-for-5, 3 runs), Ryan Kohler (3 hits), and Doug Palmer who crushed two long balls, one that went for a single after he tripped at first base, the other a double. Adam Kobeski (RBI) and Brian Pickering (RBI) had two hits each.
Putney's defense was very shaky and did little to help pitcher Danny Lichtenfeld who went the distance and had to face 55 batters. The Fossils' offense was led by Steve "Sticks" Kapral who went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Keith Hazard who also stroked three hits and drove in two. Kyle Whitworth had two hits including a double and two RBIs.
