Jonathan Edwards w/ Lisa McCormick and The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage July 20
Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present veteran folk/rock icon Jonathan Edwards plus singer/songwriter Lisa McCormick and newgrass trio The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 pm. In addition to opening the concert with sets of their own, McCormick and The Stockwell Brothers, who have each toured with Edwards in the past, will join him onstage again for part of the concert. Since 1971, Jonathan Edwards has released fifteen albums, collaborated with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Cheryl Wheeler and The Seldom Scene, launched his own record label and shared the stage with everyone from The Allman Brothers Band and B.B. King to Jesse Colin Young and Don McLean. He has also scored and starred in films and videos, including “Cruising America’s Waterways,” a pair of 13-week series produced by PBS, and “That’s What Our Life Is,” a documentary of his life and career. Edwards is perhaps best known for his 1971 anthem “Sunshine,” a fierce proclamation of protest and independence that resonated with thousands and thousands of young men and women, made its way to the top five on the national charts and earned Jonathan a gold record. Almost 40 years later, the song and Edwards’ pure and powerful tenor voice continue to be embraced by faithful followers and new fans alike.
"An Edwards performance is an unforgettable roller-coaster ride which combines his remarkable singing, storytelling, and wit" - Martha's Vineyard Times
Lisa McCormick is a mainstay of the indie singer/songwriter underground, where her strong, clear voice and smart, sexy lyrics have earned her a loyal following. Her signature sultry vocals and sophisticated acoustic guitar arrangements are spiced with exotic World Music flavors including Latin, Middle Eastern, reggae and tango. "...an absolute genius. She is funny, sexy, smart, literate, sardonic, witty, and sings with all the power of a rock diva.” - New England Performer Magazine
Featuring 2005 Merlefest bluegrass banjo contest winner Bruce Stockwell, newgrass and contemporary folk trio The Stockwell Brothers have performed alongside artists from Bill Monroe to Mary-Chapin Carpenter to Asleep At The Wheel, recorded with Mike Auldridge and Phil Rosenthal of the bluegrass supergroup The Seldom Scene and toured throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe. “Tasty arrangements; brotherly harmonies, perfectly blended instruments and great songs.” – Music Revue
