Community Contra Dance & Lovalvore Potluck At Pierce's Hall this Saturday
The East Putney Community Contra Dance will host a localvore potluck and contra dance this Saturday, July 28th. Pierce's Hall is celebrated for its fine music and warm community atmosphere, where dancers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. No experience or partner is necessary, and all dances are taught.Preceding the dance at 6:00, the table will be covered with culinary delights and surprises made from locally grown ingredients. The setup is the same as the wonderful localvore potluck Transition Putney put on at Pierce's Hall last April, except there are a lot more fresh ingredients to choose from this time of the year. So if you are up to the challenge, try concocting a dish with three quarters or more of its ingredients grown locally in Vermont or within 75 miles of Putney. If you can, please bring a plate and silverware.
For the dance, we've got another all-star lineup on deck this month, with Andy Toepfer calling, Randy Miller on fiddle, and Roger Kahle on guitar (and probably feet as well.)
Andy has been calling great contra dances since 1976, and we're very fortunate to have him with us as a special guest caller at Pierce's Hall. Randy and Roger have also been delighting dancers for decades, and have brought their inspiring music to us in East Putney on a number of occasions in the past.
As always, the dance starts at 7:30 with a beginners' session until 8:00, followed by dancing until about 10:30.
To reach Pierce’s Hall from Putney Village, go north 2 miles on Rt. 5. Turn right on E. Putney Falls Rd, and the hall is .5 miles on the left. A suggested $7 donation for the dance portion of the evening is collected at the door. For more information, call 802-387-5357.
