Artist Kate Gridley: Emerging Adults Portraits

Next Stage Arts Project presents a visual and verbal collaboration with acclaimed portrait artist Kate Gridley and two local schools on Wednesday, December 10th at 7:00 pm. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door. Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT.

This event features a presentation by Kate Gridley about her exhibit of portraits of emerging adults, “Passing Through: Portraits of Emerging Adults.” The installation of most of her 17 life-size oil portraits, with accompanying sound from the portrait subjects, has been traveling throughout New England and is currently on display at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center from November through mid-January.

At the December 10th event Gridley will talk about her work and show slides. Six high school students from Leland and Gray High School and the Compass School will offer a spoken word performance which reflects their own emerging voices based on work they have done with author Elayne Clift.

Kate Gridley is known for her insights into human character, the quality of light in her work, and her painting technique. She maintains a studio in Middlebury, Vermont, where she has lived and painted full time since 1991. Awarded a Hutchinson Memorial Fellowship from Williams College in 1978, she pursued her studies in New York City before moving to Florence, Italy for a year and a half of study of Renaissance painting techniques in the Atelier of Ben Long, former student of Pietro Annigoni.

This event is sponsored in part by a grant from the Windham Foundation.
