Community Contra Dance at Pierce’s Hall this Saturday

Community contra dance at Pierce’s Hall this Saturday, November 25th. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and all dances are taught. No partner or experience necessary.

We are pleased to announce the return of Fred Breunig as the special guest caller of this Thanksgiving Contra Dance, which marks the 40th anniversary of the first modern contra dance at Pierce’s Hall. Fred founded the East Putney dance in the 1970’s, at the very beginning of the modern contra dance revival, and called dances (while also fiddling) every month for over thirty years, teaching generations of dancers the joy of contra. He retired from the East Putney dance nearly a decade ago, but returns on occasion as an honored guest.

Fred will be joined by Laurie Indenbaum on fiddle, and Carol Compton on piano. A beginners’ session runs from 7:30 to 8:00, followed by dancing until about 10:30. All ages and skill levels are welcome, no partner is necessary, and all dances are taught.

The suggested donation is $10. To reach Pierce’s Hall in East Putney, go north from Putney Village for 2 miles on Rt. 5. Turn right onto East Putney Falls Road and go 1/2 mile until you come to the driveway to the hall on the left. For GPS users, the address is 121 East Putney Falls Road, though there is no address marker at the driveway. For more info, call 802-387-0163.
