Miro Sprague Quintet at Next Stage Arts
Next Stage is pleased to present the Miro Sprague Quintet. Don’t miss this opportunity for an evening of world-class jazz in the intimate and great sounding Next Stage! Miro Sprague is a brilliant jazz pianist and composer known for his dynamic and passionate performance style and inspiring creativity. Born and raised in Western Massachusetts and currently based in New York City, Miro has toured the globe, leading his own trio and quintet and working with jazz greats such as Matt Wilson, Greg Osby, Karrin Allyson and Reggie Workman, among others. Miro was mentored by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and many other jazz legends at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA, the world’s most prestigious jazz masters program. Miro has performed and recorded in a variety of settings since the early 2000’s and in late 2013 he brought together four of his closest musical partners to record his fourth studio album “Blue Dreaming”. Featuring tenor saxophonist Michael Zsoldos, trombonist Eric Miller, bassist Marty Jaffe, and drummer Paul Wiltgen, the quintet specializes in a melodic and engaging style of modern jazz, brimming with creativity and group improvisation. Each musician brings a unique improvisational style, technical virtuosity and deep musicality to performances of original music and creative arrangements of jazz standards. “Miro Sprague is among the most talented young composer/pianists of his generation. His grasp of harmonic complexity, subtle pianistic touch, and communication skills enable him to play the spectrum from traditional to free jazz, in settings from solo piano to ensembles of every size. I look forward to hearing more from him.“ – Armen Donelian, Pianist/Composer, Faculty, New School University Jazz Program
