Organ virtuoso Justin Hartz opened the Friends of Music at Guilford 2009-10 season with a flourish and is returning to perform again on the c. 1897 Tracker Organ in the Barn as well as on his own portable Estey JJ model, tipping his hat to southern Vermont’s world-famous organ maker. Solo selections by J. S. Bach, VIvaldi/Bach, Daniel Pinkham, Brahms, and Liszt will be featured. Hartz, an E. Power Biggs Fellow of the Organ Historical Society, carefully chooses repertoire to suit the instruments he plays, and will share insights on the composers and these particular selections for the edification of his audience. Following the conccert in the Barn, a festive cookout on the deck and back lawn will offer grilling options for vegetarians and carnivores alike, along with a variety of salads, sides, sips, and sundaes. Admission to the concert is $15 per person, with another $10 per person for the cookout.
