Putney Rec League Soccer Youth News

YOUTH SOCCER NEWS
The Putney Rec League is hosting soccer registration and clinics on Saturdays, August 27 and September 3rd at the Putney Central School ball fields.
Grades 1/2 = 9-10:15 am
Grades 3/4 = 10:15-11:30
Grades 5/6 = 11:30-12:45

Cost: $20 = town residents
$25 = out of town residents
and only $10 for each additional child

Help needed! We need parents/adults to help us with coaching the kids in the game and fun of playing soccer. Please do help!

Trade in and trade up! Bring your old soccer cleats and donate them...you might find a pair for your kids this year!

Putney has long been rightfully proud of its fire department, which in 2004 responded to a record 343 calls, and gave 4300 additional volunteer hours over to maintenance, education, and training. As we look forward to our new firehouse on the solid ground of the old salt shed property
across from the Co-op, it seems like a good time to look back and consider some of the ways our fire department has served our community, and how things have changed over the years.

Who (The People at West Hill Are)
We have new owners, as of July 13, 2004. Jim and Diny Sweitzer purchased the shop because they wanted to have more fun at work! And they are! The Sweitzers have lived in Putney since 1998 and have two sons. The whole family participates in cycling and x-c skiing. Jim can be seen riding his steel Serotta road bike, his Litespeed mountain bike or his newly Dura-Aced 'cross bike and he is getting ready to build his Independent Fabrications Ti Crown Jewel with Campy Chorus.

PUTNEY -- A Family Fun Fest is coming to Putney on Sunday, Aug. 28, from noon to 8:30 p.m., under the big tent at the Putney Inn, exit 4 off of Route 91. The day will be filled with great food, favorite entertainers, family games, children's activities and an evening contra dance.

This dance is celebrated for its fine music and warm community atmosphere, where dancers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. No experience or partner is necessary. All dances will be taught.

Putney Mountain Association -- History and Evolution

The Putney Mountain Association (PMA) was established in 1946 by a small group of Putney residents who wished to assure that Putney Mountain, a popular local lookout, remained undeveloped and accessible to the public. They purchased a 45-acre tract including the lookout and surrounding woodlands lying just above the Putney Town Forest, which had been donated to the Town in the thirties.

New Welcome to Putney Signs

New signs welcome people to Putney, Est. 1753, World's Best Known Small Town!

These signs were the brainchild of Putney resident Steve Silver at a Putney's Talkin' event last summer. Steve helped finance the project. The signs were painted by Nora Zellmer of Putney.

“My first month has been consumed with gaining at least a basic familiarity with a surprising number of projects and, of course, the citizens who are providing the energy/enthusiasm to keep them moving. Of particular interest at the moment is the Town Hall, which is receiving a new slate and copper roof, and, we hope, much more attention in the coming year.

Putney Tavern Lawn Series: Willie Edwards Blues Band, Fri. Aug. 19

Music & Entertainment The Willie Edwards Blues Band plays the Putney Tavern Lawn on Friday, August 19th, starting at 6:30 pm (rain: Newman Hall). Enjoy an evening of traditionally based soul blues. The Reformer (8/18/05) reports that this band makes "audiences feel good even if they're feeling bad."

Bring blanket or lawn chair. Free; donations accepted.
