On Thursday, Dec. 13th there will be a lecture and book signing in Brattleboro by nationally renown permaculture instructor Peter Bane. An expert in the design of sustainable landscapes, communities and economic systems, Peter will be reading from his recently published The Permaculture Handbook. Oriented towards the individual and community who are working to develop local resilience and self-reliance, this book includes sections on learning the language of design, water in the farm & garden, labor, plants-crops-seeds, animals for the garden farm, productive trees and where to plant them, forest gardens, and structures-energy-technology. In focusing on the productive transformation of our suburban landscape, Bane shows how our water- and fertilizer-intensive yards could become localized solutions in a world of dwindling resources, worsening climate change, expensive and unreliable energy and economic contraction.
