Nightwind at Sandglass Theater

Sunday, April 24th at 7pm

"Nightwind" - in a harrowing solo performance, Hector Aristizabal reenacts his arrest and torture by the US-supported military in Colombia and explores possible outcomes. Violent rage? Or a channeling of the impulse and energy into the peace movement?

After the 30-minute performance, Hector will lead a participatory workshop where he invites the audience to express their reactions to the images of torture from the play by creating their own images in response.

Natural Dyeing workshop: June 4, 5

Taught by: Sara Goodman

This workshop is suitable for all fiber enthusiasts...knitters, spinners, weavers, quilters.
Learn the basics of natural dyeing in this jam packed, two day class.Fiber preparation, mordanting, immersion dyeing using concentrated natural dye extracts, and overdyeing with indigo will be covered.

Students will make sample swatches of all the colors as well as dyed yarn or fabric that they can use in their next sewing, weaving or knitting project.

The Artist in Each of Us

“The Artist in each of us”, an art program for seniors, will begin a new session on Wednesday, April 6th 2011. The workshops take place from 10 am to noon at the Putney Cares Activities Barn on Kimball Hill in Putney (The Activities Barn is located on Kimball Hill, behind the Noyes House). Individuals are free to work with a wide variety of available materials creating their own art. You are welcome to attend all or occasional sessions.

Art Costa, Local Resident, Featured at The Blue Moose Café

Yes, the "Buicks" have rolled back into town and their new showroom is The Blue Moose Cafe and Gallery, 29 High St., Brattleboro.

Art Costa's sculptures, inspired by the mask making cultures of the world, will be at the Blue Moose through April 15th. The cafe/gallery is open for art and food from 8am - 5pm Monday thru Saturday. Art will give a slide presentation at the Brooks Memorial Library, 7 - 8:30 pm on April 4th titled, "The History of Art". He will also be at the Blue Moose on Saturday the 9th from 2-5pm for an informal session of questions and answers and a lot of strong coffee.

Judy Collins Concert at The Putney School, Sunday, June 30

Enjoy an evening with Judy Collins in Calder Hall of the Michael S. Currier Center at The Putney School, in Putney, Vermont. The 300-seat, acoustically tuned Calder Hall has hosted the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, the Windham Orchestra, and is home to the Putney Community Orchestra. Before and after the event, peruse photographs from the collection of The New England Folk Music Archives currently in the Currier Center's 15,000-square foot gallery.

The concert starts at 8PM on Sunday, Jan 30.

CELLO-BRATION Windham Orchestra Honors Putney's David Wells with an All-Star Cast of Cellists

On Friday, January 21, in Bellows Falls, and Sunday, January 23 in Brattleboro, the Windham Orchestra will pay tribute to renowned cellist David Wells. The program entitled “Cello-bration” will feature an all-star cast of cellists with connections to Southern Vermont performing a potpourri of works for cello(s) and orchestra.

Informational meeting for River Gallery School art trip to Italy rescheduled

The River Gallery School’s informational meeting for those interested in participating in its April art trip to Tuscany has been rescheduled for December 15th at 6:00 p.m. at the River Gallery School at 32 Main Street in Brattleboro.

The River Gallery School’s Italy tour will be led by Putney resident Cicely Carroll in April and includes a week of making art and exploration of the Tuscan countryside, not to mention the wonderful Italian food and wine.

Artists’ trip to Tuscany and Umbria planned for April

The River Gallery School in Brattleboro will sponsor a trip to Italy this spring for a week of making art and exploration of the Tuscan countryside. Tour guide Cicely Carroll of Putney will lead the group in painting, drawing and photographing the rolling hills around Pienza and Montepulcino, an area designated a UNESCO Cultural Landscape Site by the U.N.
