Transition Putney and Paul LeVasseur featured in the Reformer

If you haven't already seen it, Transition Putney and Paul LeVasseur were recently featured in the Brattleboro Reformer. It gives a good overview of the origin of Transition Putney and the work that the organization is doing in town.

Alan Steinberg, John Burt, Jenny Ladd, Christopher Irion & John Ungerleider Speak at Community Arts Forum Wed, Oct 27.

Transition Putney will host a Community Arts Forum this Wednesday, Oct. 27, 7-9 pm at the Putney Community Center. All artists and the general public are invited to attend.

The evening will begin with short presentations by five local artists with significant experience mobilizing community initiatives through the arts. John Burt is co-founder of Cambodian Living Arts which organized one of the largest youth arts festivals in Cambodia this summer. Jenny Ladd, co- founder of Class Action, uses theater and play to help people grapple with the challenges of peak oil, inequality and global climate change. Christopher Irion is known for his work with the Photobooth Project, a public mural of portraits which shows the community back to itself. Alan Steinberg of Brattleboro Clay Works is an organizing member of the Empty Bowls Dinner and last year’s community arts project, Response to Nuclear Power. John Ungerleider, a professor at SIT Graduate Institute, is a musician/songwriter who co-wrote and performs the Global Warming Co-Opera "Secret of the Seasons."

Transiiton Putney Health Care Group Creates Plan of Action

On Sept. 21 Transition Putney held a Holistic Health Care FORUM. Forty-five health care practitioners attended the session and shared ideas about what Putney could do to address “Wellness” in our community.
On Oct. 13, nine members of the Transition Putney Holistic Health Care Working Group created an initial plan of action to address health care needs in Putney. Below is a summary of that plan, followed by many additional ideas that we could implement in the months ahead. bulbs and strawberries

Hi Transition gardeners,
My strawberry patch is overgrown- come dig up some for your garden. Varieties are (I think) Earliglow, Honeoey, Sparkle - see www.millernurseries.com.

I just put in a bulk order of 1350 bulbs - yipes! and so, would be interested in sharing some of the order in exchange for help with planting some in my yard (or perhaps at cost)

Transition Putney Low-Acid Canning Workshop at PUTNEY CARES BARN

Low-Acid Canning Workshop, Sunday, October 3, PUTNEY CARES BARN

On Sunday, October 3, 2:00- 3:30 pm, Transition Putney will offer a reskilling workshop titled: Introduction to low-acid canning using a pressure cooker. Bonnie North will lead the workshop which will take place at PUTNEY CARES BARN on Kimball Hill.

High acid foods, such as tomatoes and pickled items, can be safely preserved in a hot water bath. Other foods which have a naturally low-acid content, such as apples, pears, green beans, etc. require greater heat and must be done in a pressure canner.

Putney Farmers' Market Sunday - Sandglass Theater at Noon

Calling all families!!

This Sunday, October 3rd at Noon, Sandglass Theater presents Kasper and the Cow, with a special appearance by Tchokolino the Clown. Come sit under the big white tent at the Putney Farmer's Market and enjoy the lively, interactive show!

Also this Sunday, Rich Grumbine and friends will be offering tunes and harmonized vocals during the market.

The Putney Farmers' Market is from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM across from the Putney Coop.

Putney Farmers' Market Doing Very Well

The Putney Farmers' Market is doing well on all fronts, thanks to the hard work of the Putney Farmers' Market Steering Committee (Simon, Kristina, Hally, Dana, Robyn, Dan, Cait, and Annik)!

Sales are high, vendor satisfaction is strong, attendance has been steady, and community spirit at the market is outstanding.

Thank you to all the farmers, local crafters, food preparers, and other vendors who are supporting the Putney Farmers' Market, and also to all the Putney residents who are choosing to buy local and support local food and local farms!

Putney Farmers' Market This Sunday, 11 – 2

Join us at the Putney Farmers' Market this Sunday, 11 - 2, - rain or shine - across from Putney Coop.

Local artisans, crafts people and food vendors will join Putney area farmers in presenting some of the very best the area has to offer. There will be live music and there’s plenty of easy parking.

The Sunday morning market will run until October 10th this harvest season and re-open next May.

Holistic Health Care Forum Draws Area Practitioners

Forty-three people attended the Transition Putney Forum on Holistic Health Care Tuesday, Sept. 21 at the Putney Library. The group included a broad spectrum of holistic health practitioners from Putney and the surrounding area. Opeyemi Parham, Lisa Nash, and Marcella Eversole presented their views on community health and health care. Opeyemi also presented some of Cheryl Conners’ ideas on health care cooperatives since Cheryl was not able to attend. Presentations were followed by an open discussion, including next steps.
