Submit a story to iPutney

Make your own news on iPutney

iPutney doesn't have the luxury of a full-time staff of reporters and editors. Rather, it relies on people like you to share your news with the rest of the town. We each have a responsibility to keep all of Putney informed.

And isn't this as it should be? After all, you know best what's happening in your
groups, sports, schools and organizations.

Submitting a story to iPutney is really quite easy. Here are some simple instructions to follow:

1. Write your story
It can range from a few sentences up to a few pages. It's up to you. Whatever it takes to get the job done. It can just be a simple announcement or a link to something on your own web site. Or it can be news of a more in-depth nature. Classified ads are welcome. Your opinions are welcome as well under the "Opinion/Advocacy" section.

We suggest you write your story first in Word or another wordprocessor. That way you can easily proof it and check the spelling. (But don't worry about perfection. All articles are reviewed by iPutney volunteers before they are put live on the web site.)

2. Go to iPutney
At the top, right corner of every page in iPutney, you'll find a link called "Submit a Story." Click on this link and you'll be taken to the appropriate page on the site.

We suggest that you be registered at iPutney before submitting a story. When you're registered, your name (or whatever screen name you choose) will appear as a byline on your news piece. Plus it enables us to know whom to contact if there should be questions.

To register, look for the "New User" link about halfway down the left side of any iPutney page. You will select a username and your password will then be emailed to you. It just takes a minute.

3. Cut and paste your news piece
There are just three things you must now do to finish submitting your news:

  • Type in a headline
  • Select a category (such as Community News, Recreation, School News, and so forth)
  • Copy and paste your news from your wordprocessor into the large text box

(Leave the last option as "Plain Old Text" unless you are an advanced user and would like to include your own HTML coding).

Note: Web site addresses will automatically be converted into clickable links.

4. Finish it off
Once you've completed these easy steps, click on "Preview." You will then see exactly how your piece will look. Plus, you'll be given the opportunity to make any changes you might like. After you are completely happy with the piece, click on "Submit." And that's all there is to it.

Someone will review your piece and place it live, normally within 24 hours.

Photos
If you would like a photo or logo to appear with your piece, email it as an attachment to: paull@sover.net. We can also copy a logo or photo off an existing web site. Just tell us where to look.

Don't be afraid
There is no way you can screw anything up. Every piece is reviewed by an iPutney volunteer before it goes live on the web site. So if there are any problems, we'll catch them before anyone sees them.
