Announcing Green Commons of Vermont

Announcing Green Commons of Vermont!

What is the future of the Putney Community Garden and Farmers’ Market?

Some members of the garden and farmers’ market, along with several community members have joined forces to create a new nonprofit corporation, Green Commons of Vermont. As you might know, Windham and Windsor Housing Trust is purchasing the property currently held by Putney Gateway Associates to build housing. Our goal is to purchase a portion of the land and preserve it for public use.

The basic mission of Green Commons of Vermont is to acquire and preserve green spaces for the community, to promote local agriculture, and to make food accessible to everyone. This includes the continued success of both the community garden and farmers’ market. Beyond that, we are striving to provide a public space for recreation and relaxation where our whole community can thrive!

We expect to gain tax-exempt status from the IRS in the fall and will begin fundraising to buy the property!

We will be co-hosting a community forum with Windham and Windsor Housing Trust via Zoom, September 9th, 7pm-9pm. Please like us on Facebook, and RSVP for this event via our page! Join us with your questions!

Please keep us, and our mission, in mind and help spread the word. We look forward to working with you to save this valuable piece of property for our wonderful community!
