“On My Journey,” the spring concert of the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus, will be presented on Mother’s Day weekend. Under the direction of Becky Graber, local women of a variety of ages will be accompanied by Lisa McCormick on guitar and Cathy Martin on piano.
The repertoire continues from the fall session with more songs of travel. An arrangement by Susan Brumfield is a combination of two traditional camp songs, “Rise, Oh Fathers, Rise” and “No Time,” that speaks of our collective journey of going home. “Arise My Love” is a lyrical rendition adapted by Joan Szymko from the text of “Song of Solomon” and the traditional hymn “At the River.” Rollo Dilworth arranged the lively “Take Me to the Water,” a contemporary gospel-style piece, and from the musical “Rent” comes “Seasons of Love.” And four songs arranged by Graber for the chorus are Chris Williamson’s “Lullaby,” “Harriet Tubman,” “Another Train,” and “Sing, Sing a Song.”
The concerts are Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, May 10 at 4:00 pm, both at the First Baptist Church on Main Street. Tickets are only at the door and are $10 Adult, $15 Generous, $8 Student and Senior. For information about the chorus, see www.BrattleboroWomensChorus.com or call 802-254-8994.
