Eugene Uman's Convergence Project
Eugene Uman's Convergence Project Saturday, June 9th, 2018 8 pm Eugene Uman's annual concert at the VJC assembles a dream band uniting his musical influences. Jazz, hard bop, rock, soul, Latin American rhythms and gospel combine in a mash-up of styles where groove is king. Uman's playing and writing is flavored with rhythms absorbed from travels to South America. Forms and grooves are adapted from Colombia such as cumbia, pasillo, puya, bambuco, and currulao. Recent creative ventures mesh wordless vocals, sung by Wanda Houston, with the harmonized melodies of the horn lines. Eugene Uman, piano; Wanda Houston, vocals, Michael Zsoldos, saxophone; Jason Palmer, trumpet; Jeff Galindo, trombone; David Picchi, bass; Jon Fisher, drums Tickets $20-$40 general, $15 students.
