Next Stage Arts presents:
ROOTS MUSIC FROM THE NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL
Rob Curto’s Forró for All is a band dedicated to Forró, the accordion-driven party music of Brazil, and the legacy of its primary innovator, the great Luiz Gonzaga.
Rob Curto is an artist deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the accordion, and its relation to the American experience. He is a master of forró – dance music that is the background for Northeastern Brazilian social life. Originally from New York City, Rob is widely considered Forró’s main ambassador in the United States. He is one of the principle musicians responsible for introducing North American audiences to Northeastern Brazilian music, and was an original member of the band Forró in the Dark, along with Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Smokey Hormel (Beck).
Forró For All evokes the experience of a Saturday night at a club or backyard somewhere deep in the northeastern state of Pernambuco, home of Gonzaga. The band thrills audiences with an experience both uplifting and enlightening. San Francisco Bay Guardian declares that the band is “America’s finest purveyors of the Forró sound.”
Performed in an outdoor venue; please plan to bring your own chair or blanket for seating.
