Essayist and cartoonist Tim Kreider will visit Putney Library on Friday, April 27th at 7pm to read from his new book, I Wrote This Book Because I Love You. This collection of essays focuses on Kreider’s relationships with women throughout his life, from his students, to his friends, to his girlfriends, to his cat of 19 years (his most enduring relationship).
Kreider is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, which has recently printed his opinion piece supporting the youth activist response to the Parkland school shooting (Go Ahead, Millennials, Destroy Us, March 2, 2018) and his contribution to the weekly Modern Love column (Just for Tonight, Pretend You Don’t Know Me, O.K.?, February 9, 2018). He has also recently been interviewed on Fresh Air and NPR’s Weekend Edition.
Author Meghan Daum says of I Wrote This Book Because I Love You, “Tim Kreider is one of my favorite living writers, no exaggeration…His wisdom is counterintuitive and therefore all the wiser; his humor is dark in ways that let light in where it’s needed most. This isn’t a book about one man’s relationship to women as much as it’s a chart of the collision course of human need in all its wrenching, perverse, gorgeous, hilarious forms. It’s his best stuff yet.”
Books will be available for purchase at the event.
Putney Public Library is located at 55 Main St in Putney, VT. This event is free and open to the public.
