Much progress was made on site at Alice Holway Drive during the past month. We completed the storm water catchment system and laid utilities for the two buildings in the first half of the month. In mid-June, we started pouring the building foundations. While site work will carry on through summer, the construction team is on track to start framing walls and rooves mid-July.
Despite careful planning and full pre-sitework investigation including a Dig Safe analysis and mapping resources from the town, the earth work often poses the biggest challenges in construction. In this case, despite prior research conducted by our contractors and the town, the unidentified water line from the town water main to Putney Meadows was hit and breached during excavation. Out of concern for operations at Putney Meadows, ReArch prioritized making direct connection with their maintenance team to advise on preventative measures. We’re grateful for the speedy response from the onsite team and the Town. The town presented on this and the additional water main break at the June 25th selectboard meeting in detail which you can watch here starting minute at 43. The Alice Holway Drive development will be 2 new buildings that provide 25, highly energy efficient apartments in Putney’s village center. The development will include community space and office for on-site staff and has been designed to not impact existing community gardens and the Putney Farmers’ Market on land. The development meets smart-growth principles by creating more homes in the designated neighborhood development area, is immediately accessible to public transportation, connects with the walkable infrastructure of the town, and preserves the cherished community garden and farmers market while also providing homes with rents set to meet moderate and low incomes of Putney. To achieve this, the development is funded through Public-Private Partnership and deed restrictions are in place to ensure that the mission of affordability remains permanently.
