New work by artist Humberto Ramirez

The Fine Arts Gallery at Landmark College presents Spring Series 2018, a fabulous new exhibition of the work of Humberto Ramirez, professor of Art and Design at Landmark College.

Humberto Ramirez is a multimedia artist working in painting, video and curatorial projects. His work is shown online, as well as at traditional venues such as art galleries, museums and film/video festivals. His work has been shown throughout the United States, as well as in Latin America and Europe. He has lectured on topics including postmodern theory, cultural criticism, psychoanalytical theory, and globalization, among others. His work has been reviewed in major art publications, such as Art Papers, Art in America, Art News and the New York Times.

Each spring, Ramirez starts work on a new series of paintings that are discrete bodies of work. Earlier series have considered topics including contemporary warfare, the human body, sky and cloud studies, color field abstraction, the natural world, and abstract symbolism.

The Spring Series 2018 project started as an exploration of idiosyncratic abstract forms of mark-making and allover compositional strategies. These studies quickly started referencing more directly the exuberance and abundance of springtime.

Through mark-making, texture, color, and gesture, these works suggest an experience of nature, sometimes tangentially and other times more specifically but always in the space between figuration and abstraction.

The exhibition will be on view from September 4 through November 10, in the Fine Arts Gallery at Landmark College in Putney Vermont. A reception will be held on September 29 from 11:00 AM till 2:00 PM. Regular gallery hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM weekdays or by appointment.
