The Grammar School seeks a Full-Time Director of Development

The Grammar School (, was founded in 1960 by a small group of families with the understanding that a child’s elementary school years provide the foundation for all future learning. TGS, the oldest of the independent elementary schools in southern Vermont, attracts families from Vermont and New Hampshire and has been a forerunner in programming in the arts, service learning, and nature-based education. The school is located on 60 acres of fields and forest and has a close-knit community of 130 combined students and adults.

The Director of Development reports to the Head of School and is a member of the TGS leadership team. The Director of Development is responsible for all aspects of TGS fundraising from annual and capital gifts to fundraising events.

Essential Functions:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships within the local community
Establish and implement a strategy to maximize giving, including annual giving, capital giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation proposals, and planning for major capital gifts
Manage the development committee and its activities
Develop and lead parent volunteers for special events
Work closely with the Board of Trustees to implement strategic initiatives
Increase alumni and parent support of, and involvement in, TGS
Communicate effectively and consistently with the external community
Identify grant opportunities and manage grant writing and reporting
Research and solicit key prospects in conjunction with the Head of School
Oversee processing of gift income in conjunction with the business office; maintain donor and giving records
Create and distribute the annual report
Educate potential donors about planned giving and estate planning
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifying Characteristics:
Advanced degree or certification preferred
Demonstrated fundraising success with both annual and capital gifts
Demonstrated experience running a capital campaign preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a small administrative team
Patience and sense of humor
Enjoy working with children and families
