The Life and Work of Tove Jansson –Wednesday, March 24th at 7pm

Wednesday, March 24th at 7pm

Join Jo Dery, Professor of Film Studies at Keene State College, for a talk about Tove Jansson, author of the beloved Moomin books and other novels, including The Summer Book.

Jo says:

In 2016, I visited Finland on a research fellowship to learn about the life and work of artist/author Tove Jansson. I will present a slideshow and talk about Jansson’s work as a cartoonist, painter, picture-book maker, and novelist — as well as her unique life, which she split between in Helsinki and a small remote island in the Gulf of Finland.

Jo Dery is an artist who experiments with visual storytelling. She makes animation, books and comics, works on paper, and multi-media projects. Her creative practice is rooted in drawing and writing. Her short films have screened at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation.
She earned a BFA in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. Jo has a decade of higher education teaching experience, with a specialty in Animation and Digital Media. She is currently an Associate Professor of Film Studies at Keene State College in southern New Hampshire.

This presentation will be via Zoom. Please contact Emily Zervas to get the link (emily@putneylibrary.org) or register for our newsletter: http://putneylibrary.org/sign-up-for-our-email-newsletter/
