Message from Carolyn Handy, owner of The Vermonter Candy
Last week, we delivered the last boxes of our fine maple brittle. There is no more in stock and we won’t be making any more.
Started by my father in 1950, the business employed many people in the southern Vermont area as the candy has always been a labor intensive product. With the rising cost of doing business, especially the minimum wage increases, making our special and thin maple brittle is no longer profitable.
The business is not for sale, but if the next generation of Handys ever become interested, the recipes would be passed on to them.
