SVALBARD SPEAKS: An Artist Dialogue with Climate Change
At Putney Public Library
Thursday, July 25th 6:15pm-7:30pm
Perri Lynch Howard is an artist forging new narratives from the front lines of climate change. Her recent artworks investigate the impact of marine noise pollution on whales and other mammals in the Arctic Circle. Join her at Putney Public Library where she will share images and sound from her expedition above the 78th parallel – sailing the coast of Svalbard on a barquentine tall ship, with an international group of artists, scientists, and journalists through The Arctic Circle Residency Program. Perri will share images and sound works inspired by the journey, and illustrate how we can harness the power of art to inspire new narratives in a changing climate.
Perri Lynch Howard is a socially-engaged artist working in painting, drawing, installation, and sound. Her work evokes a world in flux due to the profound impacts of climate change. Her creative practice is rooted in “place-based listening,” a deep attentiveness to the passage of sound, light, and signal through vulnerable landscapes – a phenomenology of place. The resulting visual artworks and sound installations are testaments to nature’s resilience – chronicles of both extinction’s grief and the tenacious spirit of adaptation. This event is presented in partnership with In Situ Polyculture.
Putney Public Library is located at 55 Main St. in Putney, VT. This event is free and open to the public.
