PUTNEY — Contemporary jazz trio Tone Forest will perform at Next Stage Arts on Saturday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Featuring pianist Miro Sprague, guitarist Jason Ennis, and bassist Marty Jaffe, Tone Forest blends contemporary jazz with world music traditions and free improvisation to create performances that are both adventurous and deeply melodic. The three musicians, longtime collaborators with roots in Western Massachusetts, share an improvisational approach that makes each concert distinct and spontaneous.
Drawing inspiration from nature, Tone Forest’s music moves through a wide emotional and sonic landscape, from intimate and delicate passages to rhythmically charged grooves. Their compositions incorporate influences from swing, samba, baião, New Orleans street rhythms, and other global folk traditions, creating what the group describes as a cinematic musical journey.
Sprague is an acclaimed pianist and composer known for his expressive and lyrical playing, while Ennis brings an expansive palette of textures through his 6- and 7-string guitars. Jaffe’s bass work anchors the trio with both subtlety and dynamic energy. Together, the ensemble creates a collaborative sound that balances technical virtuosity with openness and exploration.
The concert takes place at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill in Putney. Tickets are $22 in advance, $26 at the door, and $10 for livestream access.
