Brattleboro has an emergency overnight shelter that is open during this extreme cold. The Beloved Winter Shelter is located at the Beloved Community church at 18 Town Crier Dr.
At the moment, the shelter is operating 7 days a week. The shelter will be open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. It has space for 15 people. Only adults are allowed, and pets must be registered in advance as service animals to be admitted.
This is a community-driven effort: local neighbors, clergy, nonprofits, and volunteers have worked together to make this happen. And they have an URGENT need for volunteer!
If you would like to learn more, volunteer, etc. send an email to: belovedwintershelter@gmail.com
As far as volunteer needs, here’s what they have communicated:
– they are in need of volunteers for shifts all 7 days of the week.
– their most pressing need is for overnight hosts/volunteers
– there are generally more volunteers on the weekend, so weeknight shifts are especially appreciated
– they have some flexibility depending on people’s availability
– ideally volunteers offer a minimum of 2-hour shifts
Here are the established shifts:
Opening: 7:80pm-12am
Overnight: 12am-6am
Closing: 6am-9am
