Volunteers Needed for Putney Mountain Ridgeline Trail Work

Hello! We are looking for volunteers to help reroute a portion of the Ridgeline Trail that connects the parking area on Putney Mountain Road to the Summit. The new section of trail is being built by Tahawus Trails, a professional trail building company, and this work is supported by volunteers. Together we are building a new section of trail to protect the nearby wetlands, as well as provide a drier and more sustainable section of the beloved trail. We need volunteers to help rake dirt and gravel, dig, clip roots, and jackhammer rocks. We also need people to run loads of material up the trail from the staging area. We load up our Canycom carrier (a motorized wheelbarrow with tracks!) using an excavator and trundle the load up the trail. If you’ve ever wanted a chance to run an excavator, this is a great opportunity. We will train you!

This is a really fun project with an amazing project manager – Adam Gilbert from Tahawus Trails – who has been so generous with his time, not only building the trail but also teaching people who are interested in learning more about how trails like this are built. We’ve had volunteers from age 9 to 75! It’s very easy to join the crew, no prior experience is needed, and even small time commitments would be extremely helpful. Whether you have an hour or two or want to spend the whole day unplugging in the forest, please let us know and come lend a hand.

If you decide to join or just want to learn more please reach out to Amy Smidutz (me) or reply to this post and I’ll help you get started. Thank you for supporting Putney Mountain Association!
