Why the Foodshelf sign is red!

The Putney Foodshelf is well-supported by the Putney community but our food sources are shifting and we wanted you to be aware of it.

We get more than half our food from the Vermont Foodbank (VFB). But companies who have donated to the VFB in the past are now selling to Family Dollar, etc. to make a profit. So instead of hauling 300–500 pounds of donated food each week from the VFB, we are having to buy it at cost.

The mission of the Putney Foodshelf is to supply supplemental healthy food to area people in need. The VFB supports this by providing meat and produce at low cost. But we want our struggling neighbors to walk out of the Foodshelf with two big bags of food containing 3–5 dinners, so we now must purchase staple products/items like eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, tunafish, spaghetti sauce, pasta, rice, mac + cheese, soups, beans.

Donations may be mailed to PO Box 337. Drop off nonperishables in our donation bin at the Community Center on Christian Square (far side/ramp entrance). Or join our volunteer force (e-mail PutneyFoodshelf@gmail.com)

If you struggle to make ends meet and are in need of food: we are open Tuesdays 6–7pm and Saturdays 9–10am at the Community Center on Christian Square.
